Springboard Academy Supports University Women in Leadership
Featured Instructors for Alene Moris NEW Leadership™ Puget Sound Institute
Seattle, Washington -- The Springboard Academy, a Seattle-based professional development company, is one of the featured companies providing quality instruction for the upcoming Alene Moris NEW Leadership™ Puget Sound Institute, benefitting aspiring women leaders and teaching them about the political process. Springboard Executive Director Margo Myers and Founder Suzanne Keel-Eckmann will be teaching participants how to develop their personal brand, present a professional image, and network effectively on June 17th at the University of Washington.
“This is the third year in a row we’ve been part of this amazing program to help develop women leaders from colleges and universities around the state,” said Myers. “We fully support NEW Leadership’s efforts to teach these young women what it takes to be successful in the corporate, political and non-profit worlds.”
The Alene Moris NEW Leadership™ Puget Sound Institute is an intensive six-day institute for women attending colleges and universities in Washington State. Applicants are selected on the basis of their college leadership involvement and interest in public policy decision making. During the institute’s session, held this year June 17 – 22 on the University of Washington campus, attendees learn how to practice leadership through action, be an effective part of the political process, and get their voices heard.
Heidi Swartz, who consults with companies on their strategies for retaining their women leaders, is the current Chair of the 2013 Institute. “We have 35 incredibly impressive women this year who come from diverse backgrounds and a variety of college majors,” said Swartz. “Over the years, we’ve had alumnae from NEW Leadership go on to hold political office, run major companies, and make a positive difference in their communities.”
In fact, one of NEW Leadership’s alumnae, Stephanie Scott, went on to work on the re-election campaign of U.S. Senator Patty Murray and other Democratic candidates across the country. She credits attending NEW Leadership with providing her with the tools and connections to be successful in that role right after graduating from the University of Washington.
“Through NEW Leadership I gained a new confidence that helped me to hold my own right from the start in a challenging professional environment,” said Scott. “For me, it was the perfect convergence of education, empowerment and networking.”
Scott is now the Director of Communications for SPCA International in Seattle, Washington and New York.
Keel-Eckmann notes, “NEW Leadership programs are conducted now at colleges and universities in 21 states. This means hundreds of trained and informed women -- bright, energetic and passionate women -- are ready to affect public policy through the political process, community leadership or responsible business. I’m proud of them all.”
