How to Deal with a Difficult Boss - Springboard PowerTalk
Business Leaders Share Expert Advice in April PowerTalk.

The Springboard Academy, a professional development company, announced that leaders from Seattle-area businesses are featured panelists for a PowerTalk on April 23, “How to Deal with a Difficult Boss.” The expert panel will share their experiences dealing with difficult bosses, including:
- Strategies for managing your manager
- Effective coping skills
- How to know if it’s time for a change
Panelists include Concur Vice President of Human Resources Cindy Olsen, as well as Seattle Pacific University Employer Relations Manager Rick Sass, and former Deloitte Director and Springboard Academy co-founder Suzanne Keel-Eckmann. They’ll share their experiences on dealing with a bad boss, how they eased tension, and they will also answer audience questions. Springboard Academy Executive Director and former news anchor Margo Myers will moderate the panel discussion.
“While I’ve been lucky to have some great bosses, I’ve had my share of bad ones, too,” said Myers. “A horrible supervisor can make going to the office absolutely miserable, and often, that affects the rest of your life, too. We want people to know there are ways to cope and save their sanity.”
Olsen is responsible for growing and aligning Concur’s Human Resources function to support company employees around the world. Before joining Concur, Olsen worked in HR roles at Philips Medical System, and with Seattle accounting firms. She is also a member of SHRM.
Sass is in charge of Employer Relations at Seattle Pacific University, developing partnerships and opportunities with businesses to provide internships and jobs for SPU students. Previously, Sass was Director of Circulation Marketing and Sales for the Puget Sound Business Journal, and was also General Manager/Pacific Northwest Region at USA Today, the nation’s largest newspaper.
Keel-Eckmann is a former Firm Director for Deloitte, the international accounting and consulting firm. In her 14+ years at Deloitte, she "intrapreneured" her way from Northwest Region Operations leader, to National Director of Workplace Service Strategies, to National Director of Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability. She also led the Deloitte Services Women’s Initiative. Prior to Deloitte, Suzanne was a non-profit executive, law firm administrator, and business owner.
“We want to offer solutions for people who feel they’re stuck in a no-win situation,” said Keel-Eckmann. “Being gracious and calm in the face of adversity makes a huge impression on others. And, you never know if you might run into that boss again.”
